Kiln diried FIREWOOD Logs for sale - Limerick

Finglas Fuels distribute only top-quality kiln dried firewood logs and other sorts of firewood that are environmentally friendly. Using firewood and smokeless coal is much better than burning different fuels. Firewood logs, kiln-dried logs (sometimes called air dry firewood logs), hardwood bags of logs, softwood bags of logs, a ton of hardwood logs, and kiln-dried logs are of the highest quality, and they come from woodlands and distributors that we know.  Kiln-dried logs are a type of firewood dried in a kiln. This type of wood is a good choice for those who want to have a steady supply of firewood that is dry and ready to use. Kiln-dried logs are also a good choice for those who live in areas with high humidity, as the kiln-drying process helps to prevent the logs from absorbing moisture from the air. All the firewood products we deliver to Limerick are well dried and have low moisture content. This fact means that firewood is more efficient when burning. It gives longer burning time and more excellent heat as well. We deliver firewood in net and large builders “ton bags”. All firewood logs are suitable for most fire appliances such as stoves, open and close fires, and BBQs when the season comes. The good question is: How much firewood do you need for burning? That always depends on several factors. The most important is the kind of fireplace or other fire appliance you have at home.

Which firewood type is recommended for use.

Check which firewood has a high calorific value and smells good when burning. During the heating season, 5 to 10 cubic meters of wood is used as fuel for the fireplace, depending on the size of the heated rooms, frequency of burning, and the weather. This is a lot, so when buying wood for a fireplace, consider the choice of species, place of purchase, and storage.

Why does firewood need to be seasoned?

In the wood right after the tree is felled, there is 50 to 70 percent water. It depends on the type of plant and the season (trees felled in winter have less of it). Such wood has a low calorific value – it burns poorly, gives little heat, smokeless, and the flue gases with a high water vapor content easily settle on the walls of the fireplace and in the chimney flues, reducing their service life. Heat losses are also higher because to be able to burn damp wood, you need to increase the air draft, which means an open damper.

Therefore, before use, firewood should be seasoned, i.e. left for some time to dry. For this purpose, it is best to split them on the logs. Prepared in this way, they dry faster and are immediately ready for use. By storing them under the roof for at least a year, better two years. During this time, its humidity drops to 15 to 20 percent. The calorific value of such wood is about 4 kWh per kg, while a fireplace wood with a water content of 50 to 60 percent is only about 2 kWh per kg.

The logs should not lie directly on the ground so that they do not absorb moisture. This is especially true for air-dried wood also called kiln dried firewood. Better to put them on the joists or the grate. This will ensure their insulation from the ground and good air circulation. Damp wood should not be stored in unventilated rooms, because it may infect and mold.

Bulk bags of logs commonly called “a ton of logs” or “a tonne of logs”compare to barrow bags is up to 4 times bigger not only because of its physical dimensions but also about the number of logs it contains.

Firewood Kiln-Dried

IMPORTANT! - NEVER BURN THIS TYPE OF FIREWOOD FOR SALE IN Limerick!

IMPORTANT! Wooden elements that have been impregnated, varnished, or painted with any other chemical preparation are not suitable for burning in fireplaces. In order to obtain the highest calorific value of wood, it should be seasoned for one to two years. Immediately after cutting, the wood has 50 to 70 percent of water in it, and after seasoning, its moisture content drops to 15-20 percent. Wood with a high water content gives little heat, burns poorly, and smokes poorly.

Logs Limerick: Frequently Asked Questions

How much firewood do I need for winter season?

  1. First, it depends on how often you need to use your fireplace, how cold is winter this year, and if you like to spend time close to your fireplace. Some of our customers who use their stoves a few evenings a week over the autumn and winter season say they need around 3 to 4 cubic meters for the winter. Some of them who generally use a fireplace in most evenings during the week need between 5 to 6 cubic meters. However, some of them use wood as the basic source of heat all of the time include water heating so they need even 8 to 10 cubic meters.
  2. Second, it also depends on the type and efficiency of your fireplace appliance. New and modern will deliver very high heat output from less fire material.
  3. Third, depending on the quality of firewood you use. You will get from hardwood than softwood. More from dry than wet. Please remember close fireplaces are even three times more efficient than open appliances.
